Kenya has received a $378 million grant from the European Union to support the electrification of its public transport system. The funding will enable Kenya to build the necessary infrastructure to make its bus rapid transit system more efficient and cost-effective. As part of the agreement, Kenya's upcoming Green Mobility-Nairobi core bus rapid transit line 3 (BRT 3) will feature zero-emission electric buses and introduce intelligent transport system features. This financing is expected to boost Kenya's plans to operate electric vehicles on its BRT system, especially for its capital city, Nairobi, which faces severe air pollution and fuel shortage crises.
Kloud Commerce, a multichannel e-commerce solution, has closed after disputes between founder Dr. Olumide ‘D.O’ Olusanya and the company's investors. The startup raised $765,000 in pre-seed funding, and some investors have petitioned Nigeria's Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), alleging that D.O misappropriated company funds. EFCC operatives visited the company's offices, and D.O was invited to the EFCC office, where he remained in custody on Monday but was released on Tuesday. Investors declined to comment, but Kloud Commerce refuted the allegations, claiming the dispute was over the terms of recapitalisation.
Nigerian logistics and delivery company Fez Delivery has raised $1m in a seed funding round led by Ventures Platform and featuring Voltron Capital, Acasia Ventures and other investors. The Lagos-based start-up was founded in 2020 and offers businesses and individuals a platform to track items in real-time, charging by delivery or monthly subscription. The company was initially focused on janitorial services but switched to last-mile logistics due to the prevalence of absenteeism. The firm completed 200,000 trips last year and recorded 20% monthly revenue growth. Fez Delivery plans to continue developing its technology and focusing on Nigeria before expanding to other African markets.
