Techstars, in collaboration with ARM Labs, has chosen 12 African startups for the second cohort of its Lagos-based innovation program. While most startups are from Nigeria, the cohort also includes representatives from Ghana and Kenya, with four startups having at least one female co-founder.
Jumia, the African e-commerce company, is set to close down its food delivery business, Jumia Food, by the end of 2023.
African fashion and beauty e-commerce platform MAKA has secured a $2.65 million pre-seed funding round. Led by 4DX Ventures and Janngo Capital, the funds will be utilized to expand the workforce, optimize operations, enhance technology, and bolster its presence in Ghana and Nigeria.
Nigerian startup Bujeti, specializing in expense management and budgeting, has successfully raised $2 million in a seed funding round. The investment was led by YCombinator, with participation from various backers, including Entrée Capital, Voltron Capital, UnpopularVC, Kima Ventures, Arash Ferdowsi (Dropbox co-founder), Alan Rutledge, Tristan Walker, Heirloom VC, and Abdul “Tomiwa” Hassan.
Kenyan e-commerce startup Copia Global has successfully raised $20 million in a Series C extension round. Pan-African VC firm Enza Capital led the investment. This latest funding brings Copia's total funding to approximately $120 million since its launch in 2013.
