Time, it's the one resource we can't buy more of, even with all that tech salary 😉. This week, we asked tech folks how they juggle the demands of the industry with matters of the heart, and here's what they had to say:
Jinxy
Time is a choice. No matter how demanding tech gets, if something is important, you make space for it. For me, we have a set time—usually from 9 to 10—where we connect. Sometimes we talk, sometimes we do things together, and sometimes we just check in. It's not about how long, but how present we are in those moments. Life happens. Work gets crazy, deadlines pile up, and some days we barely talk. And that's okay. The key isn't forcing time—it's making sure that when we do talk, it actually matters. That's how I balance both: not by being perfect, but by being intentional.

Since I work remotely most of the time, my partner or friends sometimes come to visit me, and they stay around me while I work. Other times, we catch up during breaks or have video calls while I'm working. In the evenings and nights, we talk, communicate, and bond over shared interests. We talk about things that happened during our day that are worthy of note. During weekends, I spend time with them doing things we enjoy together. Even on weekdays, they're welcome to come over and hang out while I work. Sometimes, we'll grab dinner or lunch together or go for a walk.

I'm of the opinion that tech folks exaggerate everything. For most, you're literally working from home or going to the office 9-5. It's not so hard to check in on someone you love at different points during the day or to find time for a date—unless you don't like the person sha. People that go to marine ships for 3 months on water, dem dey run relationship. Nothing is hard or demanding about tech please. This my Gen Z people won't finish me with laugh dfkm! 😂

I try to create time for relationships by being intentional about how I spend my time. I have times of the day where I don't do anything work-related and times where I need to focus on work. It's not always set in stone, but knowing how to set priorities helps me.
